Sunday School Happenings

Updated 1-7-2007

Photo of Childrens Bible with Bookmark and ribbons

Our Sunday School Children received a Bible during Children’s Time on the first day of Sunday School.  With this Bible came a special book mark and ribbon.

For every ten stories that a child reads from their Bible they will receive a new ribbon to add to their  book mark!

The challenge has inspired children to read the Bible and read often! We have awarded 18 ribbons in the first week.  That is 180 Bible stories  read in 7 days. Nice work!

Our K-2 grade class has been using coloring pages to explore and reinforce topics such as “God loves You”, “Bee (as in the bumble bee) Happy in the Lord” and The Lord’s Prayer.

Our 3-6 grade class has been exploring where to find different parts in the Bible. What do we find in the front, back and middle sections. We are working on memorizing the 23rd Psalm and have the first three verses down pretty well after just one week!

We will soon be ready to recite all the verses in Church.

We have started in on our on-going weekly Sunday School art project. For the last half of each class all our age groups join in the fun together.

Each child is working on clay figures to make their own crèche scene. Our first week we concentrated on sheep and discussed how the 23rd Psalm referred to us being the “Lord’s sheep”

The “sheep” were great and we had enough time for several pigs, a cow, a kitten, and even an angel!

We are all looking forward to seeing the clay figures dry and painted.

As a special treat many of our Sunday School children went on a “tour” of our Austin Pipe Organ.

It entailed three rooms at least, air pressure controlling doors, electromagnets, spinning bellows, and of course pipes galore!

Our sure-footed kids scaled ladders to peek from the top and squeezed through small doors to see the inner-workings at ground

Looking forward to seeing you for more fun at Sunday School!

Christmas Pageant 2006

Our Christmas pageant brought angels fluttering and lights into our hearts. Our Sunday school classes from preschool to grade 6 participated in a play with a Mexican theme to depict Joseph's search for a room for Mary.  Our kids had fun wearing costumes complete with rope belts for the Sheppard's, staffs, lanterns to carry illuminated with glow sticks, halos, and our new angel wings. There were readings, 3 solo's sung by children, 3 songs with bell ringing introductions that all our kids participated in, and of course an adorable Mary carrying her babe wrapped in swaddling! At the end of Church the kids went outside for a piñata to end a fun Mexican birthday celebration for Jesus.

The children worked each week a little at a time to create their own crèches out of clay. Here is an example of a finished masterpiece which includes a beautifully painted background, tiny pig, silver cow, white sheep, angel on roof, Mary, Joseph, Jesus, and a manger. Lots of time consuming work well done!

2007

"The preschool-6 group combined to start off 2007 with a project and class based on D.O.G. "Depend on God"

While creating these plaques, our class discussed ways we can depend on God as we go through our busy days."

New This Year At Blue Point Church

Toddler Church!

This fall marks the start of Toddler Church here at Blue Point!  Our toddlers are invited and encouraged to spend the the remainder of each Sunday's worship service (immediately following Rev. Carol's children's sermon) in the nursery room downstairs.  Kendra O'Roak has graciously agreed to be the instructor for our toddlers and will be assisted by parents on a volunteer basis.  Planned activities include teaching familiar Bible stories, engaging our toddlers in creative and fun art projects and giving them time to explore and play with one another.  Studies show that children whose early experience at church is a positive one tend to become life-long church members with a deep commitment to God's presence in their lives and in the world.  Kendra's experience working with small children as well as her enthusiasm and dedication to teaching has already made Toddler Church lots of fun!  Her ideas and thoughts about continuing to teach our toddlers are exciting and invigorating and this year promises to be both educational and fun for our little ones.

How can you help?  Share the good news about Toddler Church with your neighbors, family members, friends and colleagues!  Also consider whether you are being called to volunteer your time to help Kendra teach our toddlers.  Do you have an idea or thought about ways to bring the biblical stories to life?  Or, do you have craft projects that would be fun for this age group?  Your thoughts and ideas are welcomed!

Most importantly, however, keep our toddlers in your prayers as Kendra works to teach them the stories that frame our Christian faith and define who we are as followers of Jesus.
