BLUE POINT CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH
UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST
where NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE OR WHERE YOU ARE ON LIFE’S JOURNEY, YOU ARE WELCOME HERE.
“This is who we are: We are a community of the United Church of Christ. We believe God is still speaking. We believe God’s grace abounds and embraces us all. In keeping with the extravagant welcome of Jesus, we welcome all into the full life and ministry of this church. We want all who come through our doors to find not only a place of welcome, but a place of belonging. We treat one another as beloved children of God. Together, we seek God’s truth; we practice kindness, compassion and justice; and we wage peace. We reach out to those struggling with the challenges of life in our community and beyond. We visit the sick and the lonely. We love our less fortunate sisters and brothers locally and globally. Welcome to our community of faith where we hope you experience God’s grace and mercy, love and forgiveness, for “no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.”

We Welcome the Reverend Dr. Paul Shupe as our Bridge Minister
The Rev. Dr. Paul Shupe (and please call him Paul), is a recently retired United Church of Christ pastor. For nearly 34 years he served large congregations in Maine, Wisconsin, and Massachusetts before retiring to Portland with his wife MaryAnn in 2021, though he has a passion for small churches, too, like the ones he grew up in. A native of Colorado, he is "from away," but he and MaryAnn raised their two sons, Nate and Sam, here and therefore dare to think of Maine as home. In retirement, he has been the Bridge Pastor for the First Congregational Church in Scarborough, Maine, serves as a Consultant with the Mentored Practice Program of the Maine School of Ministry, and serves on the Board of the BTS Center (the missional successor of Bangor Theological Seminary) whose mission is "Equipping Faith Leaders for a Climate Changed World." He has passions for justice work, and encouraging the ministry of the laity. Paul enjoys listening to music (rock, R&B, soul and jazz mostly), reading (both fiction and non-fiction, especially history), bicycle riding, daily walks , and birdwatching from the back porch. He loves to laugh, and hopes you do, too.
Photos of our Sacred Saunter through Blue Point Preserve down to the marsh, in honor of Earth Day. Although we were hoping for sunny and warm, the rainy conditions helped us to use all of our senses to appreciate otherwise overlooked aspects of the trail and the marsh. Many thanks to Tom Nolan, steward of the Preserve, who led us and answered our questions easily with his intimate knowledge of the property. Thanks, also, to Rev. Paul who led us in the appreciation of God’s creations, and to all those who participated in the walk.
